OFFICE OF THE CONTROLLER BUSINESS & FINANCIAL SERVICES Mail Services Division July 22, 1998 KEY ADMINISTRATORS / KEY SUPPORT STAFF SUBJECT: U.S. Postal Service Rate Increase The U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors recently passed a postage rate increase that will go into effect on January 10, 1999. For planning purposes, we have provided the following general guidelines for your unit to determine the impact of this rate increase: If a large percentage of your department mail is First Class, your postage increase will be approximately 3.1%; Non-Profit or Bulk Mail averages an 8% increase; Second Class or Periodicals increase varies based on contents, weight, etc. Overall, the postage increase will be 8% - 10% based on an estimated mix of the University mail.
