The purpose of these activities is to increase the awareness of, and sensitivity to, the abilities and needs of people with disabilities at UCSD. Lectures or demonstrations are scheduled for October 12, 13, 14, and 16 at the Price Center Gallery A from noon to 1:30 p.m. On Thursday, October 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., "A Celebration of Abilities" in the Price Center Plaza will feature entertainers, Mark Goffeney, Patty Hutchings and Amy Lynn Kanner, who were enthusiastically received last year. In addition, the movie, "Born on the Fourth of July," will be shown at 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, in the Price Center Theatre; and a film documentary, "Double the Trouble, Twice the Fun", will be shown at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, at the Cross-Cultural Center. In recognition of this annual event, I am approving one hour of administrative leave with pay during the week so that employees may attend Disability Awareness events. Supervisors are encouraged to allow employees one hour of release time to attend when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties.
