Voter Registration

The right to vote is important to the continued success of our
democratic processes at all levels of government. It is through
the choices made by individual voters that elected officials are
chosen and ballot propositions are decided. Important matters on
the November 1998 ballot include the election of the Governor,
U.S. Senators and Congressional Representatives, State Senate and
Assembly members, and numerous other Federal, State, and local
elected officials. Also, there will be 12 state-wide ballot
propositions, including Proposition 1A, a $9.2 billion bond issue
for capital projects for K-12 schools, community colleges,
California State University and the University of California.

The most important step in the electoral process is registering
to vote. The deadline for the November 3, 1998, General Election
is October 5, 1998. If you have moved since last voting, have
changed your name, or wish to change your party affiliation, you
must re-register in order to be eligible to vote. If you have not
registered before and are a resident of California and will be
18 years of age by the election, you must register in order to vote.

Voter registration forms are available at many locations in the
community such as libraries and post offices. Registration
forms are available on the UCSD campus at:

message with your name and campus mail code to vote@ucsd.edu

I urge everyone to register to vote and participate in the
upcoming election.
