SUBJECT:    Promotion Project Call for 1998-99 Applications

The Human Resources Division of Equal Opportunity/Staff Affirmative
Action is pleased to announce that the Promotion Project has been
funded for fiscal year 1998-99, as part of UCSD Career Connection,
thanks to the support of the Staff Affirmative Action Training
Program Committee.

Promotion Project is an employee career development program designed
to maximize promotional opportunities for UCSD employees and also
promote diversity at UCSD. All applicants will be considered
regardless of gender or ethnicity.

Those who wish to be considered for participation in this program
must be registered as a Career Connection participant. To receive a
Career Connection registration form, contact us at career@ucsd or at
534-5717 to leave a message requesting a form. Qualification for
Promotion Project will be based upon skill level in relation to one
or more of the job classification objectives and the criteria spelled
out in the attached application.

Promotion Project has targeted the following job classifications this
year:

Administrative Assistant I, II, III
Programmer Analyst I, II, III, IV
Administrative Analyst
Sr. Administrative Analyst

If you are eligible and interested in this program, please return the
attached application, your resume supplement-part A & B, and three
(3) originals of your scannable resume to Promotion Project, Mail
Code 0923 as soon as possible. All resume materials must be typed

Applications for the 1998/99 Promotion Project will be accepted
through March 31, 1999. You will be notified of your application
status via electronic or inter-office mail.

Once accepted into Promotion Project, participants are considered for
referral to participating departments with openings in the above job
classifications based upon minimum job requirements, career interests
and objectives, and the feasibility of developing a suitable training
plan.

Departments, with openings in the above job classifications, are
encouraged to contact our office for more information on how to
participate in Promotion Project. Once qualified, a participating
department will be referred a pool of candidates that have been
matched to their open position. A candidate who is selected by a
participating department will be promoted into the new position. A
written training plan will be used to maximize the candidate's
strengths and develop their potential. The recommended training
period will last up to six months. Subsidy funding to departments
depends upon satisfactory completion of the training plan.

Connection participant, 2) must have passed their probationary period
and been in their current position for at least one year, 3) must have
achieved a "met expectations" or higher rating on their most recent
performance evaluation, 4) must aspire to one of the job
classification objectives: Administrative Assistant I, II, or III,
Administrative Analyst, Sr. Analyst, or Programmer Analyst I, II,
III, or IV.
