OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR -
HUMAN RESOURCES
April 30, 1998
ALL AT UCSD (Including the UCSD Medical Centers)
This notice is to inform you of an exciting new initiative to provide
information systems training to faculty, staff and students at UCSD.
Innovative web-based training resources have been acquired from CBT
Systems, a provider of computer-based training to several major U.S.
corporations, and customized for UCSD users as a collaborative effort of
Academic Computing Services, Administrative Computing and
Telecommunications, the Human Resources Department, and the
UCSD Medical Center.
WebBT offers three hundred interactive multimedia training applications
that can be used directly via the web or downloaded for use on local
PCs. Courseware ranges from the full Office 97 suite, including
Microsoft FrontPage, to the training necessary to prepare for
certification as a network engineer using Novell or Microsoft NT. A
complete list of training applications is found at
http://www-cbt.ucsd.edu/applist.html.
WebBT is available for Windows users, and it is anticipated that users
of other platforms will have access in the future. System support for
WebBT will begin at the local department level, and system
administrators may contact Academic Computing Services for further
assistance.
The scope and value of WebBT is a reflection of the commitment of all of
its sponsors to support easy access to information systems training when
you need it, at work or at home via a UCSD dial-in connection.
Congratulations to everyone who contributed to bringing this valuable
asset to the university community.
