SUBJECT:    Failure of Paging Services

As many of you are aware, millions of U.S. pager users lost service
last night due to a major satellite failure that affected the entire
country. Coverage was partially restored to a number of major cities
but full coverage has not resumed in any metropolitan market.

Members of the UCSD community who subscribe to the AirTouch Paging
system were affected along with everyone else. Although we have not
received an official confirmation yet, it is anticipated that most
AirTouch services will be restored within a couple of days. In the
meantime, we recommend the use of alternative communication mechanisms
such as cellular phones.
