Join Team UCSD for the American Heart Walk

This year the American Heart Association celebrates its 50th anniversary
of funding life-saving research and educational programs. The American
Heart Association (AHA) is the largest voluntary health organization
fighting heart disease and stroke, which annually kill more than 960,000
Americans. As the number one cause of death, heart disease kills more
women (and men) than ALL other causes of death combined.

AHA funded research has yielded the development of the pacemaker and
cholesterol lowering medicines as well as bypass surgery and CPR. UCSD
has been privileged to partner with the AHA for many years. Since 1991,
we have received over $8 million in research awards from the AHA. (More
than any other Southern California institution.)

We now have an opportunity to salute the American Heart Association in
recognition of this important anniversary and to further its many good
works at UCSD. By participating in the annual American Heart Walk on
Saturday morning, September 19, members of the UCSD family can show
their support in a most meaningful way. The American Heart Walk is the
leading source of fund-raising to support the local AHA.

important event.
