SUBJECT:    Appointment of SAA/HR Director

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Julia Adame as the
Director of Student Affirmative Action and Human Relations ( SAA/HR)
Programs for UCSD. Julia will serve as the primary campus resource
for issues relating to student affirmative action and equal
educational opportunity. She possesses an extensive background in
student programs, including 10 years as a director of student support
services programs designed to increase retention and graduation of
underrepresented students. She worked on the national level
representing Educational Opportunity Programs to U.S. Congressmen.
She was a counselor, professor, and Associate Dean of Student Services
at Bellevue College in Washington.

Julia holds a B.A. with a major in Psychology and Masters Degree in
Educational Counseling from San Diego State University. She also held
a professorship at Instituto Tecnologico y Estudios Superiores de
Monterrey (ITESM) in Queretaro, Mexico's counterpart to the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology. She has served at UCSD as the Program
Coordinator for Latin American Studies and is a member of the Executive
Board of the UCSD Cross Cultural Center.
