SUBJECT:  Technology Transfer Office Name Change

After consultation with the UCSD Academic Senate, the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) will change its name to Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Services (TTIPS), effective immediately.

Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Services, established as the TTO in November 1994, manages intellectual property that arises from the innovative research and other scholarly activities at UCSD. Intellectual property is managed for the benefit of the public, often by "transferring" the right to use novel technologies created at UCSD to the commercial sector. In addition to such "technology transfer" duties, TTIPS is also responsible for increasing the university community's awareness of intellectual property issues and for providing services to address intellectual property issues and transactions that the university encounters in its daily operations.

The new name more appropriately reflects the broad purview of the office's activities in intellectual property management, education, and services.

Questions related to intellectual property or technology transfer may be directed to Dr. Alan Paau, Director of TTIPS, at 534-5815 or apaau@ucsd.edu. Dr. Paau benefits from the advice of the Technology Transfer Advisory Committee appointed by the Chancellor and chaired by the Vice Chancellor for Research.
