ALL FACULTY AT UCSD
SUBJECT: | General Education Workshop -- Friday, February 5, 1999 |
A half-day workshop devoted to a campus discussion of General Education at UCSD will be co-hosted by Academic Affairs, the Academic Senate, and the Council of Provosts on Friday, February 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the IR&PS Robinson Auditorium. UCSD's college system allows undergraduates to choose among five distinct General Education curricula to supplement their major requirements. These curricula range from a very structured liberal arts program to a program with a broad range of electives. The General Education Workshop is timed to precede the initiation of academic planning for the Sixth College and the formation of its new General Education curriculum.
The workshop will feature Donald Kennedy as the keynote speaker, two panel discussion sessions, and a wrap-up luncheon. Professor Kennedy, currently President Emeritus of Stanford University and co-director of Stanford's Center for Environmental Science and Policy, led that institution during its critical review of the General Education curriculum. His recent book, Academic Responsibility, has generated considerable interest and discussion nationwide.
Please mark your calendars for February 5. We hope you will plan to attend as many of the workshop activities as your busy schedules permit. Details concerning the program will be sent shortly.
