PLANNING COMMITTEE October 11, 1999
ALL STUDENTS AT UCSD SUBJECT: Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk for Scholars Chancellor Robert Dynes will kick off Homecoming Weekend by leading the fourth annual Chancellor's Challenge 5-K Run/Walk for Scholars on Friday, October 22, running the UCSD cross- country course to raise scholarship support for our students. We invite all staff, faculty, students, alumni and friends in the community to join us for this exciting event. Where and When? The Chancellor's Challenge starts and ends on the North Campus Field, adjacent to RIMAC. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. The run/walk starts at noon with lunch following. What's the Challenge? The Chancellor will personally donate $25 to UCSD undergraduate scholarships for every person who beats him. He and Event Chairman Charlie Robins also have agreed to donate $40,000 and $10,000, respectively, to match top event sponsorships. Are there other group competitions? Associated Students vs. Chancellor Dynes Here are the stakes: If the AS President beats the Chancellor, the Chancellor will donate funds towards the AS BBQ. If the Chancellor beats the AS President, the AS President will roll up his sleeves, get wet and soapy, and wash the Chancellor's car. Frances Dynes Hellman Challenge Professor Frances Dynes Hellman will donate $25 towards undergraduate scholarships for every woman who beats her! You're Not a Runner? No Problem The Chancellor's Challenge is a "walk" as much as it is a "run." You do not need to be a runner or have athletic abilities to participate. You don't even need to cross the finish line. The point is to participate to the best of your abilities, have fun and help support UCSD's outstanding students. Special accommodations may be provided to individuals with a disability by contacting Ken Grosse at 858-534-4211 to discuss requests for alternative accessible arrangements or accommodations. Register Now and Save $ Advance registration for faculty and staff is $8 ($5 for students). The entry fee increases to $15 ($10 for students) on the day of the event. So get your entry form in now and save money! Your entry fee includes:
