SUBJECT:  Proposed Changes to Student Wages

Consistent with the proposed range adjustment for non-exclusively represented Staff employees, a proposal is being made to increase the salary ranges for the student classifications of Assistant II-IV (Title Codes 4919-4921) by 2.0%. The only exception is the minimum of the Assistant II range, which will remain set at the state minimum wage of $5.75/hour. This would provide the following ranges:

4922 Assistant I no longer in use
4921 Assistant II $5.75 - $8.32/hour
4920 Assistant III $6.76 - $10.92/hour
4919 Assistant IV $9.36 - $19.25/hour

These classifications have "By-Agreement" rates. Therefore, individuals do not receive an automatic rate increase unless an increase is required to bring their rate up to the minimum of the range established for the class. The rate paid to individuals in these classes may be adjusted within the range at the discretion of the department, upon completion of the required twelve months on pay status. The increase may be any amount up to 3.5%.

The proposed effective date for the above-mentioned range adjustment is October 1, 1999 for monthly paid student employees and October 3, 1999 for students paid biweekly. Students or other interested parties who would like to comment on the proposed changes may do so by submitting written or electronic mail comments by November 11, 1999 to:
