ALL STUDENTS AT UCSD SUBJECT: Chancellor's Challenge Update I want to thank the UCSD community for your enthusiastic participation in this year's Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk for Scholars on October 22, 1999. We had over 1000 entries and raised more than $158,000 for undergraduate scholarships -- 50% more than last year. This year I placed 170th; my wife, Professor Frances Hellman Dynes, was 202th. Due to our personal challenge to donate $25 for every person who beat me and another $25 for every woman who beat Frances, we made a hefty contribution toward undergraduate scholarships. The result of the challenge between Associated Students President Tesh Khullar and myself is that Tesh will be washing my car at 12 noon on November 17 on Library Walk. Tesh is a good sport if not a winning runner. I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to Event Chairman Charlie Robins, campus co-chairs Robert Parker, Richard Zoehrer-LaClaire and Tesh Khullar, the 5-K Planning Committee, all the sponsors, students, faculty, staff, alumni, community participants, and volunteers who made this year's event such an overwhelming success! I hope to see you on Library Walk on November 17th!
