KEY ADMINISTRATORS / KEY SUPPORT STAFF

SUBJECT:    University Equipment Care and Custody Presentations

UCSD is ranked third in the nation for receipt of Federal research
dollars. While this distinction carries significant recognition,
conversely it carries an equally significant responsibility to
conduct the business associated with the management of property
in an exemplary manner.

In accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR - DFAR),
each recipient of federal funds shall undergo an audit at least once
every two years.

As a result of a finding in our audit in May 1998, UCSD was directed
by the federal auditors to present a series of familiarization sessions
to Departmental Business Officers, MSO's and Property Administrators.

The presentation will last approximately 1 ½ hrs and will address
topics such as:

The new definition of Equipment
Principal parties involved

Post award requirements Grants vs. Contracts
Identification
Management and Control
Care and Custody
Disposal

In an attempt to reach as many employees as possible, three sessions
have been scheduled and will be held at locations throughout the
Main Campus, School of Medicine and SIO.

All persons responsible in any manner for the care and custody of
capitalized equipment in their organization are requested to attend
one of these sessions. We look forward to providing the attendees
to these presentations with information that will help them manage
the care and custody of University property.
