ALL STUDENTS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Transportation and Parking at UCSD

As Director of Transportation and Parking Services, I would
like to welcome you to the San Diego campus of the University
of California.

Our Rideshare pages at http://parking.ucsd.edu/ride/ride.html
outline many of the services our department has developed to help
students live at UCSD without a car. If, however, you choose to
bring a car to campus, please note that state law requires all
University of California campuses to maintain their parking
facilities without the use of state funds. Parking fees are used
for the construction, operation, maintenance, and administration
of these facilities. Most parking lots are divided into red
(faculty/physicians), green (staff and graduate students), and
yellow (undergraduate) sections. As the campus proceeds with an
aggressive construction schedule to build additional, convenient
structure parking, permit rates are being adjusted to fund these
new projects. The rate increases adopted for 1999/2000 will
continue this funding process. Information on these projects and
updated construction schedules can be found at

http://parking.ucsd.edu/facil/facil.html

Listed below are the 1999/2000 student permit options and prices:

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS (yellow spaces)

you may elect to divide the annual charge into quarterly installment
payments. If you will only attend one quarter, a Quarterly permit
is recommended.

HOW TO PRE-ORDER A PARKING PERMIT

If you plan to park on campus beginning this September, we advise
you to pre-order your parking permit. This can be done on-line,
via StudentLink at:

https://www-act.ucsd.edu/cgi-bin/studentlink.pl/1/students/finances/parking

You will need your student ID number (P.I.D.) and personal access code
(P.A.C.) in order to login.

If you are not able to access StudentLink or do not feel comfortable
ordering your parking permit in this manner, you may pre-order your
permit via telephone, from August 16, 1999, through September 17, 1999.
Phone the Parking Office between 9:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M., Monday through
Friday, at (858) 534-4223. Have your P.I.D. number ready and be prepared
to declare what type of permit you wish to pre-order and your preferred
payment plan.

Orders received by September 17, 1999 may be picked up at the Parking
Office on or after September 20, 1999. A photo ID will be required for
pickup. The Parking Office is open from 7:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M., Monday
through Friday. For your convenience, the Parking Office will be open
from 8:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 25th and October
2nd, 1999.

If you will be attending Summer Quarter and require an annual parking
permit, please purchase your permit via StudentLink or at the Parking
Office, Bldg. 400, University Center, by July 1, 1999.

PARKING PERMIT CANCELLATION

An annual parking permit is valid through June 30, 2000, or until you
return your permit, with a signed cancellation form, to the Parking
Office. If you graduate, take a leave of absence, or withdraw from
school for any reason and forget to cancel your permit, it will remain
valid and you will be financially responsible for all parking fees
accrued. Please return your permit to the Parking Office if you no
longer need to park on campus.

MOTORIST ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (858) 534-8108

Transportation and Parking Services continues to offer the Motorist
Assistance Program (MAP) to our customers. Permit holders, stranded at
campus and Medical Center locations, are eligible for assistance with
vehicle battery jumps, low tire inflation, vehicle lockout assistance
(manual locks only), and a lift to the nearest station to buy gas.

Thank you for your attention to this notice. We look forward to assisting
you with your transportation and parking needs throughout the year.
