SUBJECT:    2000 United Way/Combined Health Agency Drive (CHAD) at UCSD-"Caring Hearts Building Hope" Rally

I am pleased to announce and invite each of you to a UCSD United Way/Combined Health Agency Drive (CHAD) Rally on February 17, 2000, at 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Sun God near the Faculty Club to open our Year 2000 Campaign.

United Way/CHAD provides an efficient and cost-effective way to support the many agencies that make our community a better place to live. Additionally, it offers us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Your gift supports community programs to enhance senior independence, develop diverse communities, empower persons with disabilities, improve health and wellness, protect the environment, strengthen families in crisis and invest in children and youth.

Rally activities will include a book fair with greatly discounted prices, games and other fun activities. A variety of foods will be available for purchase. The UCSD United Way Campaign Steering Committee members will staff a booth to provide related information and literature. A portion of the Rally's proceeds will be donated to UCSD"s United Way/CHAD Campaign.

In support of the Rally, I am authorizing one hour of administrative leave with pay so that employees may attend this event. Therefore, supervisors may grant employees one hour of release time in addition to the regular half hour lunch break to attend the Rally if the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties.

Parking is available in lots 207 and 208 (north of Muir College) during the Rally.
