BUSINESS & FINANCIAL SERVICES Disbursements Division February 25, 2000 KEY ADMINISTRATORS / KEY SUPPORT STAFF SUBJECT: Gifts Presented to Non-Employees and Organizations on the Behalf of the University The presentation of gifts of moderate cost for business purposes to non-employees and organizations on behalf of UCSD either when tradition, commonly accepted institutional practice, or social custom dictates gift giving is appropriate and necessary. A gift is allowable when it can be demonstrated that the gift benefits UCSD, the gift is clearly necessary to UCSD's fulfillment of its role as a good community citizen, and the cost of the gift is reasonable in relation to the expected benefit. Under no circumstances is it allowable to make a monetary gift to either non-employees or organizations on behalf of UCSD.
