SUBJECT:   Appointment-Director of Intercollegiate Athletics,
                    Mr. Earl W. Edwards

I am pleased to announce that Mr. Earl W. Edwards will rejoin UCSD as Director of Intercollegiate Athletics on March 1, 2000.

From 1987 to 1993 Mr. Edwards served as Associate Athletic Director at UCSD before assuming his current position as Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at East Stroudsburg University, Pennsylvania. Additionally, Mr. Edwards has previously held administrative posts at the Universities of Massachusetts and Michigan, UC Davis and Drexel and has an excellent record of service to the NCAA, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and local community organizations.

As UCSD makes the transition to Division II Intercollegiate Athletics and joins the California Collegiate Athletic Association this fall, we are particularly fortunate to appoint a director who is well acquainted with the program principles and traditions that are the foundation of UCSD's tremendous success in Division III intercollegiate athletics.
