SUBJECT: Appointments to Career Services Center Staff I am pleased to introduce three new members of the Career Services Center staff. Janine Tarkow has joined us as our new Assistant Director-Administrative Services, replacing Beth Surrell, who has taken a position with the Office of Admissions and Registrar. Ms. Tarkow will provide leadership in many of our office's critical administrative functions such as technology, budget, facility, and marketing. She brings to these tasks a rich and varied work experience, most recently serving as Program Coordinator for Grossmont College's Leadership & Economic Development Institute. She has a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon. Each of our other new members occupy new positions that signify major new initiatives for our office. Shannon Roberts is serving as our new Internship Coordinator, charged with developing and providing many new services for students interested in internships. That work has already begun, with Ms. Roberts advising students and the development of an Internship Supersite within our homepage. Ms. Roberts previously served as Student Affairs Coordinator for UCSD's Human Development Program. She is a graduate of UC, Santa Barbara and has a Master's in Counseling from the University of San Diego. Linda Valfer has been appointed as our new Alumni Careers Coordinator. In this capacity, she will oversee a major expansion of our office's services to alumni. In particular, she will target this initiative to recent alumni who are still in the earlier stages of their professional careers. Ms. Valfer has extensive work history in private industry, both as a provider of career services and as a human resources professional. She has a Master's degree in Labor and Management Studies from State University of New York, Stony Brook.
