SUBJECT:  Voter Registration

The right to vote is important to the continued success of our democratic processes at all levels of government. It is through the choices made by individual voters that elected officials are chosen and ballot propositions are decided. Important matters on the November 2000 ballot include the election of the President and Vice-President, U.S. Senators and Congressional Representatives, State Senate and Assembly members, and numerous other Federal, State, and local elected officials. Also, there will be several state-wide ballot propositions.

The most important step in the electoral process is registering to vote. The deadline for the November 7, 2000, General Election is October 10, 2000. If you have moved since last voting, have changed your name, or wish to change your party affiliation, you must re-register in order to be eligible to vote. If you have not registered before and are a resident of California and will be 18 years of age by the election, you must register in order to vote.

If you have moved and submitted a change-of-address form to the U.S. Postal Service, your sample ballot and other voter materials WILL NOT be forwarded to your new address. You must re-register.

Voter registration forms are available at many locations in the community such as libraries and post offices. Registration forms are available on the UCSD campus at:

Registration forms are also available by sending an e-mail message with your name and campus mail code to vote@ucsd.edu
