GRANTS & FELLOWSHIPS FOR RESEARCH ON TOXICS


The UC Toxic Substances Research & Teaching Program (UC TSR&TP) announces the availability of investigator-initiated research grants and graduate student fellowships in the biological, physical, engineering, or social sciences relevant to problems of toxic substances in California. Intercampus Travel Grants for 2000-2001 are also available for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

1. Investigator-Initiated Research Grants


ELIGIBILITY: Any investigator in any scholarly discipline who has PI status in the UC system.

RESEARCH EMPHASIS: A diverse range of research areas relevant to the UC TSR&TP (details at http://tsrtp.ucdavis.edu/tsrtp/funded_projects/#Research_Priorities; research addressing emerging toxics issues.

We wish to encourage new investigators and investigators who will gather preliminary data to provide the basis for future extramural funding.

PROJECT PERIOD: One or two years - all projects to begin on 7/1/2001

BUDGET: Up to $30,000/year or a 2-year budget (direct costs only) of $60,000 or less

DEADLINE: Proposals must be received by 5:00pm on January 31, 2001

2. Graduate Student Fellowships


ELIGIBILITY: Currently registered students in any UC graduate program.

RESEARCH EMPHASIS: A diverse range of research areas relevant to the UC TSR&TP (details at http://tsrtp.ucdavis.edu/tsrtp/funded_projects/#Research_Priorities) with special emphasis on the social sciences (economics, sociology, public policy, law, political science, etc.); research addressing emerging toxics issues.

We wish to encourage graduate students who will interact with research groups to gather preliminary data that will provide the basis for future extramural funding.

PROJECT PERIOD: One or two years - all projects to begin on 7/1/2001.

BUDGET: Stipends and UC fees not to exceed $25,000 per year or $50,000 for two years total budget.

DEADLINE: Proposals must be received by 5:00pm on January 31, 2001

3. Intercampus Travel Grants


PURPOSE: To provide travel funds for graduate students and postdocs to initiate UC intercampus collaborations with individual researchers or with existing or potential research groups on projects related to UC TSR&TP goals.

NOTE: These grants are not for travel to scientific meetings.

ELIGIBILITY: Currently registered students and postdoctoral fellows in any UC graduate program.

RESEARCH EMPHASIS: A diverse range of research areas relevant to the UC TSR&TP (details at http://tsrtp.ucdavis.edu/tsrtp/funded_projects/#Research_Priorities)

We wish to encourage graduate students who will interact with research groups to gather preliminary data that will provide the basis for future extramural funding.

PROJECT PERIOD: anytime during 2000-2001 academic year

BUDGET: Generally $500; proposals for larger awards will be considered.

DEADLINE: Proposals will be accepted anytime throughout the 2000-2001 academic year.
