SUBJECT:  Appointment of Dean of Student Affairs
                     at Thurgood Marshall College

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ashanti Houston Hands as the new Dean of Student Affairs at Thurgood Marshall College. Ashanti fills the position recently vacated by Dr. Rafael Hernandez, who resigned to assume the position of Director, Early Academic Outreach Program. Ms. Houston Hands has come through the ranks of student affairs: she has served as Coordinator of Student Activities, Assistant Dean, and Acting Dean at Thurgood Marshall College. Over the past six years, Ms. Houston Hands has distinguished herself as an experienced student affairs officer.

Despite a period of considerable staff turnover, the office of Student Life at Thurgood Marshall College has performed in a seamless manner. Ms. Houston Hands' unique duties as Dean of Thurgood Marshall College complement her dedication to the goals and philosophy of the college as an effective model for the successful blend of student life, community service, and academic excellence.
