This is a follow up to the prior notice distributed on July 6, 2000 advising
you of revisions to UCSD's Professional and Support Staff (PSS) grade
structure and equity increase procedures. Following a positive response
from the campus community, the current fourteen PSS grades (A through N)
will be reduced to seven grades (1 through 7) effective October 1, 2000.
This change will only affect non-exclusively represented employees in the
PSS tier. It will not have an affect on unionized employees, Programmer/Analysts and Computer Resource Managers, nor those in other staff program tiers such as the Manager and Senior Professional (MSP) program and those in the Senior Management Group program.
Upon implementation, only the employee's grade designation would change.
There will be no initial change to an individual's salary, position
description, or classification. Salaries can continue to advance within the
assigned salary range through the normal salary increase processes.
Campus departments should continue to submit requests for equity increases
to Human Resources, pending any changes to current policy.
