SUBJECT:  2001 United Way/Combined Health Agency Drive
                     (CHAD) at "Lead The Way" Rally

I am pleased to invite each of you to a UCSD United Way/Combined Health Agency Drive (CHAD) Rally on February 14, 2001, to open our Year 2001 Campaign. The Rally will be held from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM at the "Sun God" area near the Faculty Club.

United Way/CHAD provides an efficient and cost-effective way to support the many agencies that make our community a better place to live. Additionally, it offers us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Your gifts support community programs to enhance senior independence, develop diverse communities, empower persons with disabilities, improve health and wellness, protect the environment, strengthen families in crisis and invest in children and youth.

The Rally is an exciting way to build momentum and commence UCSD's campaign. Rally activities will include a book fair with greatly discounted prices. In addition, the UCSD United Way Campaign Steering Committee members will staff a booth to provide campaign related information and literature.

In support of the Rally, I am authorizing one hour of administrative leave with pay so that employees may attend this event. Therefore, supervisors may grant employees one hour of release time in addition to the regular half hour lunch break to attend the Rally if the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties.
