KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF (Including UCSD Healthcare)

SUBJECT:  Appointment Procedures for University of California Annuitants

The recent changes to the University of California Policies for Staff Members for limited employees have some consequences for UC annuitants. As an example, an annuitant on pay status for 1000 hours or more during a rolling twelve-month period will become eligible for conversion from limited to career status, including the potential of reentry into the UC Retirement Plan. To avoid adverse consequences to the UC annuitants, the appointment percentage shall be 47% or less and the individual shall be on pay status less than 1000 hours in a rolling twelve-month period. There are no exceptions to the 47% maximum time on pay status.

This procedure is effective January 1, 2001; therefore, if your department has an annuitant currently employed, please review the time on pay status and if necessary adjust the percent of appointment for the remainder of 2001 to ensure that the total time on pay status is less than 1000 hours through the end date of the appointment or December 31, 2001.

If you have questions, please contact Mary Ann Mead at mmead@ucsd.edu or 858-534-4115.
