SUBJECT:  UCSD Veterans Association Annual Recognition Ceremony

I am pleased to announce and encourage faculty, staff and students to participate in the Second Annual UCSD Veterans Association Recognition Ceremony. The Ceremony will honor the victims of the terrorist attacks on America, and commemorate the sacrifices made by veterans in defense of our country and their contributions to the advancement of higher education. The Recognition Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 9, 2001, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Bonner Hall, Conference Room 2130.

Honored guests will include Mr. Vince Hall, former staff director to Governor Gray Davis; and Mr. John P. Baca, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient who served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist Fourth Class, Company D, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry, and 1st Division. Colonel Angelina Salinas, Commanding Officer of the 12th Marine Corps Recruiting District of San Diego, will also participate in the November 9th Ceremony.

To support the Veterans Association Recognition Ceremony, I am approving one-hour of administrative leave with pay so that employees may attend the event. Therefore, supervisors are encouraged to grant employees one hour of administrative leave to attend the Ceremony when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required duties.
