SUBJECT:  Appointment of Associate Dean-Division of Social Sciences

I am very pleased to announce that Professor Jeffrey L. Elman, Department of Cognitive Science, has accepted a three-year appointment as Associate Dean of the Division of Social Sciences, 50% time, beginning in January of 2002. Former Chair of the Department, Director of the Center for Research in Language, and President of the Cognitive Science Society, Dr. Elman holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics. He conducts interdisciplinary research on language development. As Associate Dean, Jeff will help the Division with issues mainly concerning personnel, space, planning, programs, and development.
