ALL STUDENTS AT UCSD SUBJECT: 2001 Annual Notice on Substance Abuse Each year the faculty, staff and students of the University of California are reminded of UCSD's commitment to a campus environment free from the problems of substance abuse. For this purpose, key administrators should post this Notice in a visible area. In spite of the warning regarding the use of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs, these substances continue to be one of the leading causes of death in this country. In San Diego County, there continues to be a significant number of individuals admitted to drug treatment programs, deaths resulting from drug overdoses, and arrests for drug offenses. If you or someone you know has a problem with substance abuse, you are encouraged to contact the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program on campus at (858) 534-5523. Healthcare employees should contact the Managed Health Network at (888) 426-0023. Students should contact Psychological and Counseling Services at (858) 534-3755. These support services are strictly confidential and are free of charge to faculty and staff employees. A publication entitled "Substance Abuse Program Guide - An Official Notice to Academic and Staff Employees and Students," is available and provides information on substance abuse; where help is available; and the requirements for reporting convictions for and consequences of substance abuse while on University business or property. The Guide has been revised and is accessible at: http://blink.ucsd.edu/Blink/External/Topics/Policy/0,1162,533,00.html Copies of the Guide are also available at the Policy Development and Quality of Work/Life Division of the Human Resources Department at (858) 534-9659. Please join me in reaffirming a commitment to a University free from the problems of substance abuse.
