SUBJECT:  Appointment of Director of External Relations, Academic
                    Affairs

I am delighted to announce that Lynda Mackowski Heaney will join UCSD as Director of External Relations for Academic Affairs on May 24, 2001. This is the position formerly held by Susan Latimer, who has moved to Colorado.

Linda will plan and execute a range of external relations programs for Academic Affairs. Her experience and skills have prepared her well for this role. Most recently she held the position as Director of Development for the Alliance Healthcare Foundation. Previously, she was Campaign Coordinator at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and before that a member of the UCSD Foundation staff.

Linda will be located in University Center 111A, x23041, lheaney@ucsd.edu. She will report jointly to me and Jan Corazza, Executive Director, Institutional Advancement and Capital Campaign. I am delighted that Linda has returned to UCSD to assume this important role. Please join me in welcoming her.
