SUBJECT:  CONSTRUCTION ALERT - CITY OF SAN DIEGO SEWER PROJECT
AND GILMAN DRIVE CLOSURE (Revised Plan)

The planned closure of southbound Gilman Drive for construction of a City of San Diego sewer project has been revised to accommodate southbound weekday traffic. The closure will take effect on January 22, 2002 and continue for approximately six months. Southbound traffic on Gilman Drive (to Interstate 5) will be allowed from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. No southbound traffic will be allowed on Gilman Drive south of Via Alicante from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. weeknights. Additionally, there will be no southbound traffic permitted from 6:00 p.m. Friday to 7:00 a.m. Monday; or at any time on holidays. Northbound traffic on Gilman Drive will not be affected.

During the daytime, weekday periods in which southbound traffic will be allowed, the two existing northbound lanes will be used (one for northbound traffic; one for southbound traffic). Traffic control measures will be in effect and delays should be expected.

Access for bicyclists will be maintained during construction. The UCSD Campus/Medical Center Hillcrest Shuttle and San Diego Transit Route 150 will be rerouted as necessary during this time.

Any questions regarding this project and road closure should be directed to the City of San Diego Field Engineering Division's Group Job Hotline at 858-573-5081.
