SUBJECT:  Web-based Job Description System

Human Resources is pleased to introduce the new web-based job description system. Features of the new system include:

Job Description Supplements
Job Description Library
Job Description Review Tracking System
Electronic Mail Notification

This initiative is in response to a recommendation of the Staff Retention and Support Steering Committee and is aimed at improving the effectiveness of the classification process. Effective immediately, the job description review process is streamlined to: reduce the amount of job documentation required, eliminate the Clerical and Staff Research Associate supplements, eliminate the need for organization charts except upon department reorganization, and eliminate the need for signed documents to be submitted to Human Resources.

The web-based applications allow users to "copy and paste" information from existing documents. As job descriptions are electronically submitted via the new system, a library of UCSD job descriptions will be built that is accessible by the entire campus community. Job descriptions will be available for viewing or retrieving for use as a template in preparing a new job description. To ease the transition to the new web-based system, paper forms will continue to be accepted through the end of June 2002, after which time only electronic submissions will be allowed.
