SUBJECT:  Appointment of Campus Ombudsperson

I am pleased to announce the establishment of the UCSD Office of the Ombuds effective April 22, 2002. The Office of the Ombuds provides confidential, informal, and impartial mediation, counseling, training referral, and intervention services to the UCSD campus community including students, faculty, staff and administrators. The Office of the Ombuds is located on the Marshall College Campus in building 101 and can be reached at 858-534-0777.

This office is lead under the direction of newly appointed Campus Ombudsperson, Judith Carbone Bruner. Ms. Bruner comes to us from the University of San Diego (USD) School of Law. In her capacity as Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs and Academic Planning at USD Law School, Ms. Bruner managed all aspects of the graduate program including academic advising, enrollment management, marketing, admissions and scholarships. In addition, Ms. Bruner was assigned responsibility for the oversight of numerous institutional efforts at USD that contributed to the enhancement of its administrative and academic operations. Ms. Bruner is a trained mediator and practiced in Los Angeles prior to becoming Assistant Dean at USD.

Ms. Bruner received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1989 from Boston University. In 1994, she earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego, and is a member of the State Bar of California.
