SUBJECT:  New Associate Dean of Graduate Studies

It is my pleasure to announce that Senior Vice Chancellor Marsha Chandler has appointed Professor Steven Cassedy as an Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. His appointment is effective immediately. Professor David Sworder will continue to serve as Associate Dean, focusing on research related matters.

Professor Cassedy has been a member of the Department of Literature since 1980, specializing in Russian Literature. Professor Cassedy has served as both member and chair of Graduate Council, Committee on Educational Policy, and the campus-wide Coordinating Committee on Graduate Affairs.

Professor Cassedy’s responsibilities will include the following graduate education functions:

* Managing the campus-wide graduate program review process;
* Assisting faculty with the development of new graduate degree proposals;
* Overseeing graduate outreach and admissions; and
* Advising students and departments on the development of strong extramural fellowship applications.
