SUBJECT:    Formal Review of the UC Personnel Policies for Staff Members 42/Sick Leave and 81/Reasonable Accommodation

This Notice is provided to announce the formal review period for proposed revisions to the following UC Staff Personnel Policies for Staff Members:

I. 42/SICK LEAVE http://www.ucop.edu/humres/prophsr_sp42.pdf

It is proposed that the term "domestic partners" should be added to the list of family members for whom an employee may use sick leave in Staff Policy 42.D.1. Currently, University policy covers "members of the household"; however, the addition of "domestic partners" will provide consistency with changes to Labor Code 233, which was effective January 1, 2002.

II. 81/REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

It is proposed that "temporary trial employment" be substituted for "limited, trial employment" in Policy 81, Subsection C/Trial Employment, in order to allow for trial employment in all temporary appointments instead of only in limited appointments.
