March 26, 2002
SUBJECT: Proposed Changes to the University's Supplemental Military January 2002, I issued a notice to announce the implementation of the University's Guidelines for Supplemental Military Pay. The Guidelines define conditions for supplemental pay for employees who have been called to or volunteer for active military duty during Operation Enduring Freedom or Noble Eagle (the anti-terrorism and homeland defense campaigns), or any other active military duty meant to support President Bush's call for a war on terrorism. These employees are eligible for compensation for the difference between their University base pay and their military pay and allowance for a period not to exceed 180 calendar days, or until the conclusion of their University appointment, whichever occurs first. Governor Davis recently signed legislation to extend the time period for employees in State civil service and in the legislative, executive or judicial branches of State Government. The University is now proposing to extend the time period for supplemental military pay for its employees from 180 calendar days to 365 calendar days. Therefore, this notice is provided to announce the formal review of the proposed changes to the University's Supplemental Military Pay Policy. Comments regarding the proposed Policy changes must be submitted by Thursday, March 28, 2002, to Stephanie Navrides in the Academic Personnel Office at (858) 534-2597 or snavrides@ucsd.edu or to Jonnie Craig-Winston in the Human Resources Department at (858) 534-8037 or jcraig@ucsd.edu.
