INSTITUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL, COMPARATIVE, AND CALL FOR PROPOSALS: RESEARCH PLANNING GRANTS Applications are invited for grants to support research projects and research planning activities in international, comparative, and cross-regional studies. IICAS support is directed to faculty members across departments, disciplines, and divisions who share common research interests in international studies. Grants support the research and research planning activities of teams whose intellectual interests promise to produce significant collaborative projects. These grants provide intellectual venture capital to encourage new links among investigators and launch projects that will attract extramural funding. Proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria. (Projects need not satisfy each of these criteria.) (1) An interdisciplinary, inter-divisional and/or comparative subject. (Cross-regional projects are particularly encouraged; multi-country comparative projects also satisfy this criterion.) (2) Intellectual originality and breadth (3) Number of faculty and graduate student participants at UCSD (4) Clarity of project plan (5) Supplementary funding obtained or sought from UCSD and external sources (6) Potential for extramural funding
Proposals (no more than 2000 words) should include: (a) Statement of purpose (b) Faculty participants, including brief biographical information (c) Project plan (a timeline for activities) (d) Itemized budget (e) Designated Principal Investigator(s) Proposals are due in the IICAS office (mail code 0539) no later than 4:30 PM on Monday, 13 May 2002. Proposals may also be submitted electronically to Miles Kahler, Interim Director, IICAS (mkahler@ucsd.edu). The IICAS Advisory Committee will announce the results of the competition in late May 2002. All funds received must be expended by 30 June 2003. A brief report describing the results of the project and an accounting of expenditures must be submitted to the Director of IICAS by 30 June 2003. |
