SUBJECT: Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk In the spirit of broad campus involvement in the Chancellor's Challenge 5-K Run/Walk for Scholars, I am approving two hours of administrative leave with pay on October 24th, the day of the event. Supervisors may allow two hours of release time for staff to participate when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties. Since President Dynes first launched the event in 1996, the Chancellor's Challenge has raised $850,000 for nearly 430 undergraduate scholarships. We look forward to building on that success on Friday, October 24th. What's the Challenge? President Dynes will personally donate $25 to UCSD undergraduate scholarships for every person who finishes the race ahead of him. Any other challenges? Associated Students vs. President Dynes Here are the stakes: If the AS President, Jeremy Gallagher, beats President Dynes, Acting Chancellor Marsha Chandler will donate funds towards the AS BBQ. If President Dynes beats AS President Gallagher, AS President Gallagher will wash President Dynes' car.
Professor Frances Dynes Hellman Challenge Michael Robertson of REEF and Lindows.com (formerly of MP3) -- and a 1990 UCSD alumnus from Warren College -- will pay $25 toward undergraduate scholarships for every person who finishes ahead of him. The Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk will start at 12:15 p.m. from the North Campus Field, adjacent to RIMAC, and continue along a course that weaves through campus. Please contact Dave Koch at (858) 822-5260 to discuss requests for alternative accessibility arrangements or accommodations. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. For entry forms, payroll deduction forms to support scholarships, and more information about this one-of-a-kind event, please visit the Chancellor's Challenge Web page at http://www.ucsd.edu/5k where you may also register and pay online. Participants who have already registered can pick up their bib number and T-shirt at RIMAC on Thursday, October 23rd, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. **Please note the extended hours** You may also call (858) 534-0263 for further information. I look forward to a great event and lots of fun!
