ALL AT UCSD (excluding UCSD Healthcare)

SUBJECT:  Campus Closure on Monday, October 27, 2003

This weekend was one of the most difficult and challenging in San Diego county's history, and many of UCSD's students and employees were personally touched by the devastation we have experienced. In light of this, the University of California, San Diego will be closed Monday, October 27th. At this time, UCSD remains safe from today's fires in the San Diego region and there is no indication of the need to evacuate.

Classes have been cancelled on Monday and only UCSD healthcare employees and other essential employees should report to work. Essential employees are those who have an "essential" or "emergency responder" designation on their ID card, are necessary to support our student residential population, or the duties of these employees are critical in responding to an emergency.

We are taking this action as we feel it is important to reduce traffic on regional highways in support of emergency personnel.

For updated information, you can access the campus emergency information line at (888) 308-8273 or the general information line at (858) 534-2230. You can also receive updated information and helpful resources at http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/emergency.

This has been an extraordinarily difficult time for many of our employees and students, and we are grateful to the staff and faculty who have assisted with UCSD's response over the past weekend.
