SUBJECT:  Web Site on Impact of Fires on UCSD Community

Dear Colleagues:

I have always been enormously proud of the talented and dedicated staff, faculty and students at UCSD. This is an exceptional place for many reasons, but the events of the past weeks have shown again that it is the people of UCSD who make this campus so special.

I invite you to visit a special Web site, located at http://ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/fire , that has been created to celebrate your service to UCSD and the greater community during the firestorms and in the aftermath of the fires. A few of your personal stories are shared on this site, but for each story contained on these pages, there are dozens of other heroic stories, and hundreds of people who stepped up to make a difference - to keep this campus safe, to care for those who needed medical attention, to help your neighbors in need by offering a place to stay or a shoulder to lean on. A special edition of the UCSD Times covering the fires impact on UCSD also will be delivered to your mailboxes beginning Monday.
