SUBJECT:  Smoke Free Policy - PPM 270-7

Effective January 1, 2004, new state of California legislation (Assembly Bill 846) extends the no-smoking zone from 5 feet to 20 feet away from the doorway, entryway, operable window or ventilation intake duct of any facility.

To meet the requirements of this new law and to protect the health of our faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors, the no-smoking prohibition requirement in the UCSD Smoke-Free Policy is changed from 5 feet to 20 feet. This is in addition to prohibiting smoking in all areas that are posted as "No-Smoking."
