SUBJECT:  Reduction in Number of Operating Ledger and LASR
                     Copies Distributed

Based on a recommendation from the Paper Disposition and Use Tiger Team of the Rapid Process Redesign Project (RPR), the Office of the Controller sponsored a "Ten-Second" Poll last week via Blink. To the question "Can you get by with one less copy of the operating ledger?" 91% of the respondents answered "Yes". To the question "Can you get by with one less copy of the LASR?" 88% of the respondents answered "Yes".

Based on the overwhelming response from the survey and the recommendations of the RPR Tiger Team, we have determined that effective applicable with March reports delivered in April, 2003 only one (1) copy of the operating ledger and two (2) copies of the LASR will be distributed. For the limited number of you where this causes a hardship, we offer the following solutions:

(a) Carole Ring, the leader of the RPR team will coordinate consulting with you on alternative solutions. She may be reached at cring@ucsd.edu or 4-0355.

(b) As an alternative source of specific financial information and monitoring, we highly recommend exploring the capabilities of the many standard reports on FinancialLink, or using QueryLink for more specialized needs.

(c) Special needs relative to number of copies of the operating ledger may be addressed to Steve Ste. Marie at sstemarie@ucsd.edu or 4-4951 for possible resolution.

(d) If you would like to discuss special LASR multiple copy needs for possible resolution, please contact Scott Drummond at sdrummond@ucsd.edu or 4-3242.

(e) Cynthia Harrison is leading another RPR Team, the LASR Team, that is exploring the feasibility of having a web-based LASR produced as well as including leave information on the pay stub. This team's efforts continue and the conclusions are not yet finalized.

Thank you for your participation in the survey and for your cooperation in reducing the use of paper here at UCSD.
