BUSINESS & FINANCIAL SERVICES MAIL SERVICES March 24, 2003
SUBJECT: Proper Addressing for Incoming US Postal Mail for UCSD Mail Services delivers all UCSD incoming mail to hundreds of individual campus locations. It is extremely important that the proper address is used so that mail can be processed and delivered in a timely manner. Please inform individuals sending mail to UCSD to use the proper mailing address which includes the Gilman Drive address, a proper mail code and Zip + 4. For UCSD, the "+4" is merely your four digit department mail code. By including the Zip + 4 number in addresses, the U.S. Postal Service can process mail more efficiently to UCSD . Use the following format to get the best service: SAMPLE ADDRESS:
University of California, San Diego Mail received without the proper address can cause delays in delivery or, in extreme cases, such mail may be returned to sender. We need your help to get the word out to those individuals who send you mail. Please be sure to include your proper address with the Zip + 4 on all your departmental letterhead, envelopes and correspondence. The personal mail of staff and faculty should not be processed by Mail Services as this is an inappropriate use of University resources. Therefore, personal mail should not be addressed to be received on campus. Mail Services retains the right to return personal mail that is continually received. Each department is responsible for forwarding or returning to the sender any mail for personnel who have moved to another campus location or left the University. Our goal is to deliver your mail in a timely and efficient manner. We appreciate your cooperation in making this possible. If you have any questions, please call Fred Gomez at Mail Services, 534-1167.
