SUBJECT:  Formal Review of Proposed Policy Changes to Expand
Professional and Support Staff Severance Pay

This notice is provided to announce the formal review of proposed changes to UC Personnel Policy 60 (Layoff and Reduction in Time of Career Professional and Support Staff), Section A (General) and Section J (Severance Pay). The proposed revisions would expand current severance pay benefits for career professional and support staff (PSS) in an effort to minimize the impact of temporary or indefinite layoffs and reduction in time.

The proposed changes to Policy 60 would require that the University provide:

* Employees who are laid off the option of electing severance pay in lieu of preference for reemployment and the right to recall

* Severance pay in a lump sum amount of one week (5 workdays) of base pay for each full year of service up to a maximum of 16 weeks of base pay

All of the proposed policy revisions are accessible on the UC Office of the President's website at:

http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/employees/policies/policies/proposed_policies/index.html

Comments regarding the proposed policy revisions must be submitted by Friday, May 9, 2003, to Jonnie Craig-Winston, Director of Policy Development and Quality of Work/Life, at jcraig@ucsd.edu or (858) 534-8037.
