SUBJECT:  Appointment of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Admissions
                     and Enrollment Services

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mae Brown as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Admissions and Enrollment Services (formerly designated Enrollment Management/Registrar), effective May 1, 2003. Ms. Brown fills the position previously held by Richard Backer who retired on November 3, 2002.

Ms. Brown has served as both acting and interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for the past eighteen months. She will continue to provide leadership for the Offices of Undergraduate Admissions, Registrar and Student Financial Aid. Mae actually began her career in Undergraduate Admissions in 1972. She returned to this same office in 1995 as the new Director of Admissions and Relations with Schools after serving 16 years as Director of Academic Advising Services at Thurgood Marshall College.

We are most pleased that Mae has agreed to assume the leadership of Enrollment Management during this period of unprecedented growth, policy changes, and budget challenges.
