SUBJECT:  Message to the Campus Community

On June 4, a 16-page newspaper entitled "Jizzlam, An Entertainment Magazine for the Islamic Man" (June 2003, volume 63, issue 2) was distributed at UCSD. The paper does not identify the organization or persons who authored the paper or individual articles.

The paper mocks Islam, its beliefs and practices, in a vile and obscene manner. Apparently intended to hurt and degrade members of our campus community, this publication's message of hate and disrespect is deplorable and deserves our strongest condemnation.

As an institution committed to our Principles of Community, we reassure those who are the intended targets that we respect and value all members of the campus community.
