SUBJECT:  UCSD Open House

I am pleased to announce that UCSD will hold its 2003 Open House on Saturday, October 25, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For the third year in a row, this important campus tradition gives us an opportunity to invite the San Diego community-as well as our own faculty, staff, students and their families-to explore our campus and sample a wide array of academic, health promotion and cultural programs.

In keeping with the 100th anniversary of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the theme of the 2003 Open House is "Oceans of Fun," and the event promises to be just that, thanks to all our Open House volunteers. Many of the activities this year will take place on the SIO campus.

Although I will formally begin my new duties as UC President October 2, I plan to be on hand Oct. 24-25 for UCSD's annual 5K run, Open House and other 2003 Homecoming weekend events. I hope you will join me in welcoming our San Diego friends and neighbors to the UCSD campus.
