SUBJECT:  Revised Policy to Expand Professional and Support
                     Staff Severance Pay

Effective July 1, 2003, UC Personnel Policy 60 (Layoff and Reduction in Time of Career Professionals and Support Staff) has been revised to expand severance pay benefits for career professional and support staff (PSS) who have been laid off indefinitely or whose time has been reduced indefinitely.

The changes to Policy 60 require the University to provide employees who are laid off indefinitely or whose time has been reduced indefinitely:

* The option of electing severance pay in lieu of preference for reemployment and the right to recall
* Severance pay in a lump sum amount of one week (five workdays) of base pay for each full year of service up to a maximum of 16 weeks of base pay.
