SUBJECT:  CONSTRUCTION ALERT UPDATE - VOIGT DRIVE DELAYS

UCSD's School of Engineering has two adjacent buildings currently under construction [Computer Science and Engineering Building and Cal(IT)2]. This construction activity takes place Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m and 5:00 p.m.

Currently, the utility lines servicing these buildings are being installed in Voigt Drive causing traffic delays. Signs have been posted indicating approximate 20 minute delays and flagmen continue to control the vehicular traffic. Beginning on July 10, 2003 the Computer Science and Engineering building will be exporting soil from its site and the CAL(IT)2 site will be receiving structural steel at the same time. We anticipate a large number of trucks which will impact the already slowed traffic conditions. Because of these large construction projects, these conditions can be expected for the remainder of this calendar year.

During this time, it is recommended that through traffic on Voigt Drive be minimal and Gilman Drive be utilized to access the campus when possible.

If you have any questions, please contact the Project Managers, Michael Downs at 858-534-4094 (Computer Science and Engineering) and John Sturla at 858-534-3977 [Cal(IT)2]. We greatly appreciate your patience during these construction activities.
