SUBJECT: Administrative Professionals Election and the The University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE), an affiliate of the Communication Workers of America, has filed a petition with the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) to represent a systemwide unit of University administrative and professional employees. PERB has determined that UPTE has demonstrated a sufficient showing of support (30% of the employees in the proposed unit) needed to conduct a representation election. The election will determine whether employees in the petitioned-for titles will be exclusively represented by UPTE with regard to their wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment, or whether they will retain their existing terms and conditions of employment as provided for by the University's Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM). Among the titles UPTE has petitioned to represent are Administrative Analyst, Administrative Specialist, Student Affairs Officer, Learning Skills Counselor, Program Representative and Programmer Analyst. Because a large number of UCSD employees will be eligible to participate in the election, during the course of the next several months, the University will provide the campus community with Campus Notices and e-mail with additional information concerning the election and the election process. You will also be able to refer to the new Blink menu on collective bargaining, which will contain regular updates as well as comprehensive information on all matters relating to collective bargaining including:
