SUBJECT:  Acting Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Senior Vice Chancellor Marsha Chandler and I are pleased to announce that, pending Regental approval, David Miller will assume the position of Acting Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, effective October 2, 2003. Professor Miller's appointment is strongly endorsed by the Academic Senate.

Professor Miller is currently the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Planning and Resources. He has been a member of the faculty of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (formerly known as Applied Mechanics & Engineering Science) at UCSD since July 1966. He served as department chair from 1981-1985 and again from 1989-1992. He also served as Associate Dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering from 1994-1997.

Professor Miller has demonstrated outstanding performance in his role as Associate Vice Chancellor. He possesses a unique combination of experience and strong leadership skills that will serve UCSD well during this transition period.
